How to be a distributor of a product?

Hi,
I would like to know more on how to be a distributor of a products in sg. I have some products in mind which are not distributed and sold in sg. So I am thinking of bring them in. I am not familiar in this field, so I really appreciate if someone can let me know more on how to be a distributor. I have search online and couldn't find much information on this. Or is there any books to recommend or what. Would really appreciate if anyone gives me some guidelines. -
Are u doing it freelance or you intend to set up a company/retail shop??
Firstly u need to check with the custom officials/ other government agencies whether your goods are permitted to be brought in into Singapore.
Secondly if you are bringing in goods such as electronic/ healthcare products you need to have your relevant products tested to make sure it is safe to use.
Last but not list is all the paperwork u need to draft. Such as import/export document, tax declaration, finding the right freight services to bring in your goods etc.

Seriously, I am a newbie to all these. How do I go about to check with the custom officials whether the goods Im bringing in are permitted? and also, I am also unsure regarding the freight service. I do not know which freight service I could use which also saves cost. -
And what are the things to look out for in order to protect myself from the suppliers?
And I also intend to get some products in China. Which air/shipping company can I look for to help me import the goods here? -

On a serious note, if u are really intrested in doing business the best thing u could do is do some research on business plan, marketing strategy, financial planning 4 ur business,weight the pros and cons of doing business, ways to target your potential customer etc. It may sound taxing but u will reap what u sow in the future.
As for whether ur supplier in China could be trusted, I dont know. To protect urself, draft a contract with ur supplier that is feasible for both party with the help of a lawyer. Usually you could opt for debit or credit purchase depending on the supplier.The best option will be ifu have a contact in China itself or you urself go down to the supplier factory or office to have a look at their production.
As for freight services, there are thousands of freight services to and from china if u google the net. Which is the cheapest, send an email or call them directly.
If u have the cash just employ a business consultant and they will do all the work for you.
