  will you share a hotel room with a opposite sex on a company trip or trip among colleagues?
  
  the situation is such that the number of males and females is in odd numbers.

  Of course not, its not right. The company will usually make sure of that, unless the company happens to be fcuked up. Even if it means the room isn't shared. But sometimes people are willing to compromise and hence everything gets worked out one way or another.
  
  My company also have quite a few times one guy and one girl going the same place, also book 2 diff rooms for each one of them.
