Maybe the layout can be similar to the sgForums one, if you guys think its too mundane, can try to overhaul the layout. no need to be a major overhaul, perhaps a bit of minor modifications will do.

Erm, honestly speaking (as a regular blogger), i feel that ur words is a little too big..
And the background color/image, feels a bit old.. Although the color fits in well, i think u can adjust blog's color into a darker ones (eg. red). As for the bg image, can choose a more towards simpler, nicer type of image..
Btw, put more images instead of words..
P.S: the below the Singapore Blogpshere the link (like Blogs, Top 50 etc), u can try using images to link (u can create ur very own image (just to link)).. -
