I see the software can choose from one type of leave to another, like from absent to maternity leave.

Of course. Got so many types of leaves. Got urgent leave, annual leave, maternity leave, no pay leave, leave to go ICT...etc

urgent leave - leave that is immediate e.g. 24hrs notice
annual leave - regular paid leave, usually 14days per annum. usually 1 - 2 weeks notice must be given
no pay leave - when all your annual leaves are used but you have to go off on urgent matters. number of days off will be deducted from your salary.
compassionate leave - when a immediate family member passes on. leave amount is given at the discreation of the company. all days off are paid
maternity leave - given to staff who are pregnant, based on HR regulations, can range from 1 - 3 mths. Paid
NSF / ICT Leave - Leave taken to attend reservist training, salary to be bourne by MINDEF
all the above are for staff who are full timers and have completed their probation.
