That is quite the opposite of what I have experienced. BTW I mean forum discussions not msn. Msn is for kids.Originally posted by dakkon_blackblade:It would really depend a lot on group dynamics i.e. how the people in your group interact with one another. In online discussions it is quite possible to have someone's views drowned out or ignored by the flood of messages from others, and it is more difficult to monitor whether someone is contributing or just leaving the chat window open while doing something else.
ya, talk to u in person is better than talking to u online..Originally posted by dakkon_blackblade:It would really depend a lot on group dynamics i.e. how the people in your group interact with one another. As long as the person has valid views, what does it matter if he is or is not what he is claiming to be? Are discussions meant to find out truths or are they meant for you to make more friends?Originally posted by Bontakun:Meeting up:
Face to face discussion. Real life experiencing of people conversing up front. No faking. Sheds off the mask of being behind a computer screen.
Online discussion:
No worries of using offensive structures in discussions (You can't see me~). Masking of oneself by using an alter ego to communicate. No real intent is shown because there is no way of seeing if the person "speaks" from the true heart or not.
"Faster to speak than type". Won't this mean you are speaking out of impulse instead of well thought points?Originally posted by cAr|n:faster to speak than type
also easier to point and draw to demonstrate ideas
online discussions may be fine if it's just between 2 persons... if more people then it can get very chaotic
It depends on your intentions and credibilities. Of course I do wanted to make more friends, also I am more attentive to people discussing up front as I am able to read more into what they are trying to say then mere words typed in the net.Originally posted by Eric Cartman:As long as the person has valid views, what does it matter if he is or is not what he is claiming to be? nope... as in looking at a passage, it's faster to read aloud than type it outOriginally posted by Eric Cartman:"Faster to speak than type". Won't this mean you are speaking out of impulse instead of well thought points?

u talk so much, have u been to any outing before?Originally posted by Eric Cartman:Discussing online ensures that everyone's voice is heard (for group discussions). Everyone posts what they want to say, and it is up to the reader to look through every post made. Whereas in face to face discussions you need to wait for your turn and most often you are only replying to the last person who spoke. This leaves the people with softer voices out of the picture.
Another thing good about online discussions is that you can refer back to previous posts and ensure that people have been consistent in what they have been saying instead of using trickery to confuse.
Maybe you are just a slow typer, and also if you were to read out from an already fixed passage you would fumble when someone adds in new elements into the story. Whereas when you type after you read, you are shaping the discussion according to how you really feel without distraction from factors like the facial expressions on the other party.Originally posted by cAr|n:nope... as in looking at a passage, it's faster to read aloud than type it out
wasn't referring to whether one does think about one's points.... there can be points that aren't well thought out on forum discussions as well
i think face to face is more efficient if everyone comes prepared... forum discussions can sometimes span a few days... of cos this depends on the topic being discussed... if it's a general discussion like this thread, then a forum is fine but if the discussion is for work purpose, face to face is better because the pressure is on everyone to participate and response time is quicker
