hi folks,
Just out of curiousity, how much saving do you have when you were 19 or 19.
Cos I have a fren who ppl think that he is damn rich. He once showed me his saving acct. it;s like 11K +, is it a lot for a ppl who are like him?
Do u tink he's rich?

well few possibilities..
1. could be that every of his expenses is covered by his parents? tt $50/wk allowance is probaly just for school usage. when he goes out to club or some other stuffs, his parents probaly fork it out for him.
2. could be his parents deposit in a certain sum of money for him every month like perhaps $200?
3. he has rich relatives.
4. he has no life
but what i really feel is perhaps he should have rich relatives and he saves alot from ang paos every year. and well maybe he can't touch his savings as well

got 11k when I was 16 le leh... nv gotten pocket money since 14 and I got my own text books...
used to chiong 5 days in a wk starting from 14 till 18 and got tired of it... so nv chiong anymore... -
one of my bro's fren had around 10-15k by time he entered NS, apparently he doesn't spend money on anything, no interests or hobbies whatsoever, studies in JC and started working part time at a young age. if you're thrifty i guess its pretty possible

When I entered NS at 18-19, I am sure i had more then SGD11k in savings. And that was way back in 1990!
I started saving my ang pao $$ since age 6-7 when my mom opened a POSB account for me.
I didn't spend any savings at all, just accumulate. every week, my grand mother gave me $10 pocket money when we went to visit her.
All these add up to savings.... during NS, my allowance as a CPL clerk is SGD240 a month and I managed to "save" even then as i buy bus stamp and eat cookhouse during lunchtime... and eat breakfast and dinner at home.
During those days, there is no "distractions" like Ipods, cellphones etc etc to spend $$ on... even my "walkman" (in those days) use re-chargable batteries so that i don't have to spend $$ on batteries.
But then, even now, SGD11k is peanuts when you started working. but it is always good to be ahead in savings and start to notice where u r spending money on... -
