CSP,here is my experience during my trip to hongkong
I stay in a 5-star hotel for like 3 days..and the windows are either near the carpark or a swimming pool..and if u forget to close the curtains..u will get it..and the worse part is.. the television is sometimes faulty and the lights too
like a chalet more than a 5 star hotel..singapore wont offer this kind of room and poor facilities for a 5 star horel -

maybe, how about switching the lights on in the middle of the night.
perhaps it'll go off instead -
