What is your NORMAL PRACTICE....? WHY...??
It depends on the circumstances.
While we can't possibly please everyone we come across, we shouldn't deliberately try to make people's lives miserable either.
Scenario 1: You want to be an engineer but your parents want you to be doctor. So what would you do here? Would you choose to do engineering to be happy or to do what your parents want you to do, to make them happy but you feel miserable? If I were put in that situation, I would rather upset my parents and choose to do what I want to do. It's my career for the next 30++ years.... why do something I don't enjoy at all?? Your parents will always be your parents and they will love you regardless!!
Scenario 2: You like rock music and like to turn it up so loud day and night until all your neighbours can hear it. All your neighbours including whoever living in your house with you obviously will feel annoyed with the loud music. So in that case, what would you do? Just to be happy and let them suffer?? I don't think so and I don't believe one will be happy living a life like that with the whole world hating them, oh well, assuming one lives with a conscience anyway.
Whatever you do, there's always a consequence. It's just a matter of whether that's the consequence you're happy to bear.
To me, so long as at the end of the day my conscience is clear, my happiness will always come first. This is what boundaries mean, and please don't be mistaken with self-centredness.
