Mother Sentenced For injecting Faeces Into Daughter
(Oklahoma City, OK) -- An Oklahoma woman will be behind bars for the next decade-and-a-half for carrying out the bizarre crime of injecting her young daughter with feces. Sarena Sherrard pled guilty this week to the faeces shooting in 2005 after getting caught on video tape doing it at an Oklahoma City hospital. She is said to suffer from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, a condition where parents try to gain attention by harming their children. The child suffers from hearing loss but is now four-years-old and has mostly recovered. The judge said he was sentencing Sherrad to one year behind bars for each of the 13 times the little girl was hospitalized and then added two-and-a-half more years because the abuse went on for that long. Sherrad is also not allowed to have unsupervised contact with children or the elderly and will spend more than a dozen years on probation after her release.

Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is a somewhat contentious diagnosis. Psychiatrists are quite divided over whether such a disorder really exists. And there have been several cases in the past where mothers were falsely diagnosed with it and unjustly separated from their children. However, in this case it does appear that the mother is mentally unstable, but it does not necessarily suggest that she is suffering from Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

i read one book about this condition too. the title of the book is 'sickened'. the author's name is julie gregory. her mother suffered from the condition. i don't know whether you are referring to the same book but if i remembered correctly, she didn't sue her mother. i think the book is mostly about her dealing with the repercussions of her mother's action as she grew older.Originally posted by udontknowme:there's a book about a mother with this condition
