u no search in wiki??
The English word "earth" has cognates in many modern and ancient languages. Examples in modern tongues include aarde in Afrikaans and Dutch, and Erde in German. The root has cognates in extinct languages such as ertha in Old Saxon and ert (meaning "ground" ) in Middle Irish, derived from the Old English eorðe. All of these words derive from the Proto-Indo-European base *er-.
Several Semitic languages have words for "earth" similar to those in Indo-European languages. Arabic has ard; Akkadian, irtsitu; Aramaic, araa; Phoenician, erets (which appears in the Mesha Stele); and Hebrew, ארץ (arets, or erets when not preceded by a definite article, or when followed by a noun modifier). The etymological connection between the words in Indo-European and Semitic languages are uncertain, though, and may simply be coincidence.

QUESTION: Why is our planet called Earth?
ANSWER from Dave Hollenbach on May 20: "Earth" is a word which means the ground, the dirt, the rocks, the things we humans walk on. Long ago, it was not known that the other planets were like the "Earth". They also have rocks and solid ground and mountains. But people didn't know that then. They looked like stars, except they moved in their positions in the sky if you looked at them night after night. So they were named after the gods. The word "planet" comes from an old word which meant "wanderer", because the planets wander through the constellations of stars. Of course, the planets are much closer than the stars, but if you see Jupiter some night, you might see it in the direction of the star constellation Leo, while a month later it might be in the direction of the star constellation Scorpio.

NAMES!!!!!!!!! Who is the fellow or group of ancient who named this planet after earth, and you probably cut and paste from wiki, and i did know why is it named as earth!

it's almost impossible trace the etymology of many words unless it's a modern word coined in recent times........ like discovering a new star and naming it after someone or something...
words were simple utterances in ancient civilisations which were evolved and documented to sound more "correct" with better phonetics and tones and used until today.....
