  How do you express this equation into something which you can then use to find the approximate shape of the graph, so that you can sketch it?

  Divide the whole equation by 2
  y^2 + 4y - 10x + 74 = 0
  y^2 + 4y + 4 = 10x - 70
  (y +2 )^2 = 10X - 70
  therefore
  
  Y = (10x - 70)^1/2 -2
