Shipping a guitar internationally

I'm thinking about shipping my guitar back home in a few months time. Does anyone has any experience with shipping guitars here?

yes i have one. I'll want to know more about the costs involved and the safety of doing it (as in not damaging the guitar during the journey).

always to do it yourself. shipping would be... a lil unsafe. all that laws, insurances, and crap. but... who am i to say all this. i know nuts.

i know... i might have some problems because i have lots of stuff to bring back after my long stay abroad. Plus I might want to stopover in Tokyo for a few days enroute back home and having some much luggage to carry with me around town with the possibility of lost baggage too.. worries me.

actually some guitar sites do that! Think normal postal service do that, plus commercial carriers like UPS and FEDEX. I just like to have an idea of the costs involved and possible redress if the guitar is damaged.

i use fedex for notebooks
u can specify to handle with care......
and u can buy insurance for the item..... -
