i heard from my friend, void deck wedding, food +decor can cost 10 to 15 K . and its held at both gal and guy place..so 2 places can cost 20 over k.
some more they dont expect guests to pay. isnt that COOL
if u r invited to malay wedding..dont need stress..just give what ever amount u can, they dont care.
go already guests still got a gift and can tapao the dish home
envy their big heartedness towards their guests, not saying chinese wedding cultures are wrong but ang bao shouldn't be treated like an investment. kinda irks me. -

what we are trying to point out is that malay couple usually invite u and ur whole family to attend their wedding. The usually cater food for more then 1000 guests..food is usually more then enough. the amount to be given is up to individuals

The amount of money given should be proportionate to the level of sincerity and closeness to the bride and groom. Not proportionate to the cost of the wedding.
Seriously if the couple needs the money to cover their cost they shouldn't even hold the wedding in the first place. The worst are the kinds that wanna hold big weddings at big hotels just to show off and then depend on the red packets to survive.
If I were to spend 150k on my wedding and all I get back are physical presents like flower vase, photo albums, cooking pots, I'll be more than happy. At least it shows more sincerity, that my guests bothered to think over the presents to get. Instead of just calculating the cost of the wedding and shoving the required cash into a red packet.
And Trendz, I don't know you and you don't know me but I gotta say you've been marginally disrespectful to negative posters.
You assume people are too dumb to get your point and so you keep repeating the same things with an air of superiority when in fact they understand you perfectly well, while you are the one really missing the point.

2. Hotel/ Restaurant- $60- $100
3.HDB block or community center-$10-$20
3.Birthday for buddies... Buy him a expenisve gift he need
4.Birthday of chiou bu friend- Necklace or event a package tour for 2 with u...
5. Relatives -Varies to cases by case basis
All of the above to my personal guideline for your reference.... Hope that through this you will be generous in gving ..... -
