Chinese New Year is a very unique and special holiday. Actually all holidays are unique in their own way, but I find CNY to be especially so. Why?
Well, if you look closely, most holidays, like Christmas, Hari Raya, Vesak Day, Easter, Deepavali, etc, they are mainly religion-based. There is no such thing as Hari Raya being meant for Malays only [cos there are Indian, Chinese, and other types of Muslims], or Deepavali being meant for Indians only, since there are non-Indian Hindus too.
But regardless of whether one is Taoist, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, or even an atheist, so long as one is Chinese, one is bound to celebrate Chinese New Year. I find that unique.
Does anyone know of any other festivals like Chinese New Year, where the day is celebrated by a certain group of people regardless of faith?
Besides National Day, of course.

And most importantly, I just want to wish all our Chinese forumites a Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year. Xin Nian Kuai Le!
