First, same surname CAN get married UNLESS you are blood related....My bf and I same surname..His sister and brother-in-law also same surname...But our dads were adopted...In these times, surname DON'T really mean you are from the same family....Just so happened both our dads were adopted into families of the same surname.
The reason why same surnames should not get married (medically) is because they enhance the possibility of offsprings inheriting diseases that runs within the family.

I have enough cousins who share my surname (L**), but there's are too few K****s. If one can't decide which surname the baby should take, then let him/her choose. Either that or use a double-barrelled surname. -
