Maths helps us in our ability to logic.
English helps us to communicate more effectively.
Combine humanities help us to know more about the world.
And you say you can learn from sgforums.

Hmm lets just say you can't survive in a world without skills. Be it cookery, piloting, teaching or some other skills, you must have a skill to get a job. Unless you are one who works hard and undergo apprenticeship with some master of some areas, a ready-made packaged education in schools will be a better option. xD.
