SINGAPORE : Former National Kidney Foundation (NKF) CEO T T Durai returned to court on Wednesday to face two criminal charges of using false documents with intent to deceive the old NKF.
Durai pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him.
In his opening statement, Deputy Public Prosecutor David Khoo said the prosecution will proceed on the first charge with the second one to be stood down.
The first charge states that Durai had knowingly directed an invoice containing false statements to be issued with intent to mislead the old NKF between December 2003 and January 2004.
The invoice was for payment of S$20,000 to DTC for interior design consultancy services.
To prove its case against Durai, the prosecution will call 13 witnesses to the stand.
Durai's lawyer, senior counsel Sant Singh, has also applied for two witnesses to be subpoenaed.
Durai was accompanied by his son.
The hearing is set for three weeks. - CNA/ms
