  i dunno about cats. but those stray dogs usually are those mix breed. and they are usually more healthy and stronger then pure breed which people prefer to keep.

  These strays do survive, but they suffer with poor nutrition which leads to poor health and higher rate of getting disease (so more suffering). And they die young.
