The technician at my home only managed to get my Singtel mio package partially working on a Thursday evening. Slightly under an hour was spent getting the broadband service running. And the digital voice line only worked the following day.
Initially, we thought that the connection problem was due to a wrong password. The set-up and configurations were okay, but the connection could not be established. Later, the technician told us that there had been a fault on Singtel’s server side. “Probably somebody flipped the wrong switch,” he said.

As the technician did the final touches, he told me that he is only paid $10 for every installation job. He works in another company, under the contract of Singtel. Starhub paid $25 for such a job, and both telecom at one time paid as high as $40 per job. He serves over 10 houses per day.
In the end, Singtel had delivered a faster broadband connection (3.5Mbps) at the cost of frequent disconnections. The digital voice service was delivered later, and faced frequent cut-offs midway through the call. For a telecom which has proclaimed a net profit of 13% to S$994 million, their service standard didnÂ’t match up.
Singtel mio wasnÂ’t promoted over the weekend newspaper. And their television commercial didnÂ’t seem to appear on air either.
