What your Auntie wants is a custom designed tutoring? ...want teacher to speak chinese....this and that.Chances are she would never find a good teacher.Go to British Council where the teachers are well trained in TESL and I think she might just last longer there.Originally posted by missqi:Where in SIngapore can you find reputable schools that teach speaking English(preferably in Chinese)?
My AHYI from China wants to learn spoken English......................................
How much?
SHe wants those at least 3 times a week one..
What's TESL? Because if the only language the tutor speaks is English, I don't think she would be able to learn. I think we should understand the requirement missqi's Aunt has as well.Originally posted by Short Ninja:What your Auntie wants is a custom designed tutoring? ...want teacher to speak chinese....this and that.Chances are she would never find a good teacher.Go to British Council where the teachers are well trained in TESL and I think she might just last longer there.

TESL (Teaching English As A Second Language) TEFL (Teaching English As va Foreign Language) TESOL (Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Language) Actually they are all the same but TESOL sounds more appropriate. In Japan almost all English Classes are taught in Japanese as a result it would take ages for the brain to get tune to English,on the contrary the Chinese and the Koreans are breaking away from this habit which explain why their English Education has improved a lot.Imagine what it would have been like if my teacher from England had taught us English in Hokkien>Originally posted by SumOne:What's TESL? Based on what you say, I think it's not a bad idea for her to take this up then. She might want to know the cost but I'll let her ask or refer to Brit Council herself.Originally posted by Short Ninja:TESL (Teaching English As A Second Language) TEFL (Teaching English As va Foreign Language) TESOL (Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Language) Actually they are all the same but TESOL sounds more appropriate. In Japan almost all English Classes are taught in Japanese as a result it would take ages for the brain to get tune to English,on the contrary the Chinese and the Koreans are breaking away from this habit which explain why their English Education has improved a lot.Imagine what it would have been like if my teacher from England had taught us English in Hokkien>
but we could argue that assuming she was fluent in Hokkien the class could have fared better but a teacher must never allow students to be too dependant on their mother tongue when learning a second languange.
I am not sure about that and so have to call BC for more information but from my point of view there shouldnt be any basic requirement when wanting to learn a language.....especially EnglishOriginally posted by SumOne:Based on what you say, I think it's not a bad idea for her to take this up then. But does the course require at least basic english knowledge, or can a person have no background or knowledge or english to attend this course you mentioned. No harm knowing since none of us even have a gauge of the English literacy of TS's aunt.
Good for others here to know as well.
There you go! Two for the price of one ,might even get paid some moreOriginally posted by allentyb:i can teach her from free, in addition i could teach her karma sultra![]()
