  well the basic idea is you join and you speak whether impromptu or prepared.
  
  You can try to just attend one of the session (do not need to join or pay any fees),just join in.
  
  Even in this case,you will have a chance to speak infront of everyone if you dare to,normally they will try to invite you to speak about a certain topic for about 3 mins (impromptu) so well this is the more scary part
  
  After which if you are interested to join,you pay the membership fees and you get a set of notes to help you along.
  
  From there you will be making your first prepared speech but such speeches will be much longer.You will start with the most simple topic which is to talk about you,basically an introduction to all the members in a topic you are most familar with.
  
  Also for each session,there is a portion dedicated to impromptu speeches too so they will just invite anyone to come up and speak
  
  There are different standards of toastmasters,attainable after completion of a certain amount of speeches and quality of speech must pass a certain standard

  There's a toastmaster section for students. My sec school offered it. I was part of it also.
  
  I think one of the polys here have a toastmaster club, but it's by another name. Not called toastmasters.
