Interested in knowing how much the pay will be, the first year and the year after thatOriginally posted by UltimaOnline:Better to make it to the University (either JC route or Poly route) and major in a subject which is a relevant teaching subject (ie. closely related to a secondary school or JC subject), then sign up with MOE and take a one-year Diploma course at NIE.
Your pay will be better this way, and your bond time will be much less.
If you sign up with MOE with only an 'A' level cert or poly diploma, you will have to attend either a 4 year NIE course (paywise almost as much as if you went University on your own), or a 1 year NIE course (paywise much less).
At the end of the 4 year NIE course, you can teach only primary school for a couple years, then can teach Sec school. If the 1 year NIE course (ie. after your JC or poly), you will only be allowed to teach primary school your whole life.
So my recommendation is - make it to a University on your own first (JC route easier, Poly route also possible), then sign up with MOE.
I'm a teacher in a neighbourhood secondary school.
i m currently teaching in a private school...Originally posted by cheekycheng:well im interested too, but the moment my teacher asked me whats the reason i wanna be a teacher i stoned in front of her...

There is nothing a teacher could do if a student refuses to learn.A teacher has to learn how to help a student teach himself/herself.I have seen a whole class going into an out of body experience and this is not a Yoga class but an English class taught by an old fashioned boring teacher with a tranquilizer voice.Originally posted by rainee:i m currently teaching in a private school...
why wanna teach ah...prolly cos i realize that last time, i didnt get much help from my teachers during my studying time, and there were times when I feel really helpless...so want to be a teacher to help the students when they are feeling helpless in their studies...
of cos teaching is not an easy job, you really do need to know how to be patient and also interact with the students...
yea, the least the teacher can do is to make the class at least interesting and the things that the students learn interesting. so i always try to include some activities of some sort during my lessons. even though it is not required, but seeing the students enjoying the activities more than make up for all the hard work i have put in to organize those...Originally posted by Short Ninja:There is nothing a teacher could do if a student refuses to learn.A teacher has to learn how to help a student teach himself/herself.I have seen a whole class going into an out of body experience and this is not a Yoga class but an English class taught by an old fashioned boring teacher with a tranquilizer voice.
But this kind of thing cannot for graduating classes right? I taking my Os in Nov and my teachers all dashing through the syllabus like theres no tomorrow.Originally posted by rainee:yea, the least the teacher can do is to make the class at least interesting and the things that the students learn interesting. so i always try to include some activities of some sort during my lessons. even though it is not required, but seeing the students enjoying the activities more than make up for all the hard work i have put in to organize those...
maybe one advice i can give to ppl who aspire to be a teacher...follow the syllabus but see what extra activities you can come up with that match the syllabus...for example, when my students learning about how to conduct interviews, i let them have a mock interview session....this will make your students feel closer to you and also closer to each other...
teaching must be your passion or you will not be able to last long. OR you bo chap and last very long...Originally posted by m0use:most important we must let the students like us. i guess there should be no problem with the primary school kids. secondary school students are more rebellious and difficult to handle.![]()
hmm maybe for graduating class a bit hard...have to try to blend in with the lessons...Originally posted by fallin:But this kind of thing cannot for graduating classes right? I taking my Os in Nov and my teachers all dashing through the syllabus like theres no tomorrow.
What have your class been doing the rest of the time? A teacher should know when to speed up and when to slow down when covering the texbook now last minute kalang kabut for what?Originally posted by fallin:But this kind of thing cannot for graduating classes right? Firstly, I have to say that my class discipline is not the best lah, I'd say we're a bunch of people that like to fool and joke around. And most assuredly I tell you, we've paid a heavy price for it. So we might be slower because the teacher needs to ask us to shuddup. Secondly, I think we're the pioneer batch for the JC mono intake. So the Os are coming some what earlier this year for us. SO thats that.Originally posted by Short Ninja:What have your class been doing the rest of the time? haf fun being a teacher, i promise that my son and my grandson will give you hell in schOriginally posted by m0use:hey people it's me again. i'm sorry that i keep asking questions but i just want to make sure of everything.
i asked my teacher about being a teacher and she said we could take A level then go to NIE to take the degree programme.
but i haven't got the chance to ask her that, would it be competitive for A level holders and diploma holders to take the degree programme?
like normal local universities such as NUS/NTU that there is only a small intake of diploma holders and most of them are given to the jc students. does it apply the same for NIE bachelor of science/arts?
so it shouldn't be a problem for poly grads to enter the NIE degree programme as though entering private uni?
haha once u become a teacher, this shud be the least of your problem olediOriginally posted by m0use:thanks for everyone who commented.
the only thing i don't like being a teacher is waking up early in the morning. =x
