Customer Service Voice

  Hi all,
  
  do you speak in a higher tone when you speak to your superior or customers?
  do you put on a pretentious smile?
  
  Is it a common thing in the hotel concierge people to speak in a higher tone?
  Does it sound more polite?
  
  For those who don't understand what I mean, think of how SIA stewardess speak. They raise their pitch high when serving passengers.
  
  I had a small arguement with a friend who does this.
  IMO, it's not necessary to raise your tone to sound polite. One can be polite by speaking normally. And smile naturally, not the fake ear-to-ear wide grin.
  
  HE (ya, he. That's why I think it's worse that he had that customer service voice ) told me that concierge people speak like that too. I beg to differ. However, I had no proof to support my point.

  Yup, you have to be polite. But do u need to bring ur voice one octave higher?

  i tried speeking higher pitched voice acting to be customer service.
