.......an article in ST with a concern parent talking about folks who can go top 5 JC should not go poly bcos it deprives not-so-good ones of poly places?
My take is...........I study hard so that I can choose. So if I wanna go poly but get 6 points, will of course still go poly. Message to parent, too bad. -

That's true; I think its all about choice; someone works hard for something, he's entitled to the choices that's available to him at the end of the day. You work hard, you deserve the variety of choices. You don't work hard or just enough, then your choices are limited. To those who really work hard but still aren't able to make it, then its down to your luck then. There are other things that you can shine in.

How can like that. If all those 5~6 pointer wanna go poly, then those avg(20~26) pointers got no place but to choose ITE/Pte dip/workforce leh.

actually i prefer those jc - standard ppl to go poly...although many would view this as competition and derive ppl of higher pointers to less favorable course or even ITE..however in my point of view..this competition instead rises the standard of poly..giving it a impression of not just a place for JC -cmi-s..instead..this trend will also rise poly standard...a good example would b this year psychology course and optometry at SP and NP... these courses i believe are made for low pointers..and are signs that the standard of poly IS rising...
in fact i do not agree with the idea of jc-ppl goin poly would derive poly ppl of their places..this is becos..as a matter of fact...poly offer different courses.. these courses each has their own cop...like i mention above..so if student cannot meet the cop of these courses...they would only have themself to b blamed..
ok lets imagine this..poly courses cop became 18-28..would u still want to go poly?? so if the standard of poly do not rise with injections of low point scorer..it will dip..dip..and dip to the point that poly would become of little recognition..ermm..no offence..but imagine all poly to b like rp..yea..u get my point..
also..not forgetting that poly and jc had actually 2 different method of education..
Jc is the subject based learning where student studies various subject and different level of each subject..
poly on the other hand..give student hand on basis and equip them with skill essential for future career..
therefore..student should also have the choice to which ever type of education they wan... -
It is indeed laughable to see such delusional people around. Now, I hope parents don't tell their kids to take it easy and just get 20 points for O Levels so they can go poly. Fat chance!

Seriously. Need to fight to survive. I like to agree that all should be given a chance, but that can only mean that places will have to flexible, and that's quite impossible. To be so-called fair, it would mean that 6 pointers should not be barred form poly also, and at the same time, places are limited. -

Got someone reply at the ST forum page that it could be due to baby boom on the year of Dragon or Snake 1898,1990.
