As love without esteem is capricious and volatile so to esteem without love is languid and cold.
It means that love as an honour is likely to change and is unstable, so to honour without love would have very little effect and thus moves very slowly and is shorn of feelings.
I don't know what I'm talking about anyway... sigh. Sorry.
