Me like CAntonese and teochew, more refine. EAsy to learn Cantonese as it is rather similar to Mandarin.

alot of them esp the hongkee are too proud of their ascent that they ignore the fact dat mandarin is the main communication language among chinese n often speak cantonese around. look at star award, it really pissed me off when the guests invited from HK cant even know ch 8 is a chinese programme dat they carry on wif their canto speech.
last time i worked in restaurant there is these canto woman trying to speak canto to me, n i told her, "Excuse me, can you speak in mandarin?"
they speak cantonese coz maybe they dunno how to speak mandarin, or that their mandarin is very poor...
of course they dun wanna speak broken mandarin on TV n let everyone laugh at them? or having to speak mandarin n have to pause n think of what words to say.... so they speak what they r fluent in lah!!
if u work in a chinese restaurant, by right the waiter or waitress should be able to speak cantonese... unless its some ignorant young waiter like u...
coz mostly chinese restaurant is serving cantonese/hong kong cuisine.. -
my family speaks shanghainese at home.
we hate hokkien and cantonese. in fact all dialects. they not cool!!
