Basially this rule means no singaporean man can have long hair or dyed hair unless you are over 40 or even 50. Is that not too harsh? I don't see the NEED to disrupt our civilian lifestyle for a 2 week thing per year. It is illogical.
I think we should be given the choice to have long hair or not. If SAF is scared about image, then make sure everybody in ICT change into civilian clothes before book out?
Also there is no point talking about wartime long hair all these because when we are in non war situation like none, things are suppose to be different, if got war, hair will be a small issue don't you think?
Just because it's a old rule does not make it is good forever. Nowadays we are a modern society and we should always look to challenge ideas and rulings that is illogical or unfair or simply outdated and be flexible or else we will never improve. -

and no one should complain about ns. the only reason why such a pathetically small country like us has more say and power than we should in the region is because our army is not something other countries can kick around easily. -

You are dragging the issue away. We are not talking about ns as whether it should stay or be abolished. For two reason, we have pay our dues after committing 2 years of our personal and professional life to the nation defence. Second, we should not be disrupted from our civilian life in terms of things like hair, since we already disrupted up to 40 days per year for in camp training and not even counting IPPT And RT for some serviceman as well. -

i do think it's proper to keep the haircut rule going.
this is so going to sound weird, but it's my take.
when you don the uniform, you are representing the country and the SAF, not just yourself anymore. an analogy would be you wearing your family name and contact on your shirt. would you want to appear as a hooligan anymore?

During my 1st ICT, the lady in charge during my 1st day booking in wanted me to cut my hair 1st...
wth... I just cut my hair and she still considered it long. I was wondering how short she wanted. After all, she is just a SAF staff with a long long hair. so dots.
Long hair I dun mean those shoulder lenght hair, i mean just longer than secondary sch standard.
