  Is it possible to get 1.8k to 2k for a IT post? I only a dip. holder.

  which area of IT?
  
  support? system admin? programming? SAP? security? DB?

  starting pay about 1.6k to 1.7k.......for system admin/tech support...
  after probation if got increment then it's about wat u are expecting up there
  programmer may get slightly less......bcos got FT spoil market...

  must see your skill sets... if you only know those you learn in sch that can't contribute much to the company.. then very hard la..
  
  unless you are really quite an expert or has lotsa experience in the field you go into.. then starting pay 2k+++++ is not a problem.
  
  for example, if you go into networking. you most probably will start from 1st/2nd level of technical support..
  
  but if you have the knowledge of administrating server, configuring firewall, troubleshoot complex domain problems, etc, it's not hard to get an engineer position.
  
  i have few friends getting 2.3-2.5k for 1st IT job as network engineer/software engineer after poly.

  poser programmer get lesser...those who really can do the work still can easily get 1.6-1.8k.
  
  normally poly fresh graduates going into programming field will do the sai kang, like debugging other people's code.
  
  my sister started this way.. after 1 year, she went to do uni and started with 2.8k. 3 years later, she is getting near to 6k but is not so much to programming, more like consultant on business+software stuff..
