hi there.
I took SS/E.Geog for my combined humanities and I must say I really hated this subject ever since Sec 3. Had been having perpetual F9s for almost all tests/exams/CA for my Combine Humanities. Even right up to my preliminary exams, I had an F9 too.
So I was thinking if I could get a B4 or something for my O's, i'm more than satisfied and contented. But when the actual O lvl results came, a surprising A1 sprang up on me.
Now how did i do it?
No doubt, it is a two-tier effort. Between myself and my teacher (S.S. teacher in particular).
Did countless practices for SBQ on my part (STARTED vigourously after my Sec 4 prelim exams). Learn the skills. SKILLS. They're the most important. Without skills, the most you could earn yourself for is an L3, which is a just pass grade.
For SEQ, needless for me to say that content is vital. Because you HAVE to learn it, by heart or by crook. whatever. Regurgitate!
But the crux here is, you have to explain your points, with regards of the essay question. Learn to twist your mind. Answer HOW, WHY question when explaining.
I know this advise here is vague but it's been some time since i last opened my S.S. book/notes... can't give any examples. Sorry!
So do go consult your teachers. Ask them exactly how do you score for the essay. Most importantly, consolidate MODEL essays from the different topics. Please do not trust entirely on outside assessment books! They aren't reliable and might not be as relevant as what your teachers could get for you. Start early. Don't be a late bird, like me. ha ha. (:
