1) Ethnically, the aborigines of taiwan are more closely related to malays and filipinos than han chinese.
2) There was no significant chinese settlement until the late 1600's
3) Even tho the Qing Government annexed taiwan in the late 1600's, they effectively renounced sovereignty in 1871 by declaring they had no jurisdiction over the aboriginal peoples of taiwan... leading to Japan's subsequent takeover.
So effectively, 'China' never really had a hold over taiwan historically, so why should it be different now?
The recognition of the 'one china policy' by most of the world is a pragmatic move rather than the recognition of an unalienable right.
It is not to say PRC cannot claim Taiwan, but to say the claim cannot be challenged is just dumb.
So, no, the girl is not stupid.
