Hi, I am thinking of going on a trip (10 Days max) to Tibet during June this year and would like to gather some information from those who have been there.
First of all, is it more worthwhile to take a train or flight from China (Shanghai or Chengdu whatever) to Tibet, factoring in both the time and $$? Of cos, flight would be faster and more costly and taking train gives you the time to get used to the high altitudes and u get to view the wonderful scenery along the way, am I right?
Next thing is the sites of interests that one must visit. I did some googling on the internet and realize that there are some very prominent places such as Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. There is also another street, known as Barkhor Street, where they sell a lot of locally made products. Are there any other places that is very worth visiting?
I am also very interested in visiting the natural sites of Tibet, such as the Yamdrok Lake, Namtso Lake and many others. In fact, I would like to plan my trip such that 70% is visiting the natural sites and 30 %. Me and my group of friends planned to make this trip a trekking one such that we set up tents next to these beautiful natural lakes and valleys. Anyone think this is feasible and reasonable and any more breathtaking sites to recommend?
I tried emailing the agencies for their Tibet itineraries but I could not come to a conclusion thatÂ’s why I decided to post my concerns here and ask for help.
Thanks for reading this post and I look forward to all your inputs which I believed will help make my trip very fulfilling.
