i have identify the change as a change in objective of performance as in: in the past music is generally performed as a display of artistic level while nowadays it is used in a diversity of ways such as advertisment, therapy etc.
my problem is, i wouldnt find precise and sufficient evidence to support my point. further more, as i am rather unprofficient in english, i would not very well explain the impact of this. hence, i beg for help from any kind souls. thanks
If i interpreted your question correctly, here goes.
Take for example rapping (Hip Hop culture). It was started in the States in the 60s by the blacks. At that time, the States is not very stable socially and racism is a serious problem there. The blacks had to resort to robbery, thefts and violent crimes to get money. They grouped up, and commit all sorts of crimes which would result in riches. After they commited those offences, they would gather in some place, destroy properties and party. It was at those parties they started rapping, showing their hate, anger and all sorts of feelings about the society.
As time goes by, the blacks sees rapping as a part of black culture.
After hip hop loses its hold as a "blacks only" culture, it became a trend to follow the hip hop culture. Hip-hop music strayed towards love and its clothings. It has also become a medium for showing the "gangsterism" side of hip-hop lovers. Instead of using the music to show their feelings, it has become a medium for monetary, showing-off etc.
