Wait.......are you a local Sg person....or foreigner? If foreigner, yeah i can understand you going to Inter school.Originally posted by jondizzle foshizzle:Well one day I was sitting on the bus just having left my school and was on the way to meet my friends somewhere. I noticed two girls sitting across from me saying something about international school students and being one myself I was a little curious as to what they were talking about. They apparently were saying that international school students were all spoiled rich kids with fake accents and were just plain b*tching about them even though they could see that I was obviously from an international school. Well I got kinda pissed and told them off but they just ignored me so anyways, what are your thoughts on the matter?
I'd send my kids to an international school for reasons such as gaining a better understanding of intercultural communication, learning more about the world than they ever could in our national schools where education is not education, but vocational training.Originally posted by FireAndHell:Wait.......are you a local Sg person....or foreigner? But if you're a Sg, wat are you doing in Inter school? Local Sg school not good enuff for u? Or are your parents too snobbs to send you to local Sg school? They feel they must have class...n to them...local Sg school got no class?? They need you to speak like them foreigners???![]()

I'm a Chinese/Australian/Jew...yeah weird mix ahhaah. I used to go to a local school but now I go to AISS. Even when I was in a local school I never did speak singlish though. It also seems like a lot of the local students dislike international students for some reason.Originally posted by FireAndHell:Wait.......are you a local Sg person....or foreigner? i understand that for some people they cant much anything about it. but it just feels really weird. dont get me wrong i have many friends who speak with an accentOriginally posted by da-cheese-freakk:what if we cant help it?
I'm an ABC.
I dont have a singaporean accent, but its not like I'm trying to make it american either.
and I personally think that there are a lot of stereotypes associated with schools. in fact, someone just called members of a school I feel closely connected to "ugly and low" simply because they belong to that particular school. oh, and also because they beat them in a certain sport =).

Nah, no offence but I think thats bullshit. School nowadays teaches alot abt the world. Nowdays, IT learning focus more on the teacher giving the topic and kids go find infos for themselves, no more spoon feeding.Originally posted by LazerLordz:I'd send my kids to an international school for reasons such as gaining a better understanding of intercultural communication, learning more about the world than they ever could in our national schools where education is not education, but vocational training.
Frankly, if MOE did not restrict locals from attending international schools, a lot of my peers would have gone there. It's about the exposure you get to an international crowd, which prepares you when you travel, work and live abroad.
I've been to both an international and local school and trust me international schools are way better. The education system is better and the teachers are better. In local schools a lot of the teachers don't really care about the students. International school teachers, however, are very highly qualified and are some of the best.Originally posted by strado:Nah, no offence but I think thats bullshit. If you honestly think international school is better than our local school in terms of education, you think the govt will let them come in? I'm sure they are teaching the same subjects anyway, minus Hao Gong Ming and Civic and Moral educations.
These are given by the MOE to teach about the responsibility of being a singaporean. Int School are just for foreigners whose parents are expats posted here.
Vocational trainings are essential, and they are balanced with books teaching.
Sure, mix with the international crowd, but thats just a pretty flimsy reason. You don't mix with "an international crowd" so as to "prepare to live and work aboard".
Its just doesnt make sense. If your kids know how to Zuo Ren, living everywhere shouldnt be a problem.
I hope your kids dont speak with an angmoh accent.

Coming from a school that many label as "kentang" i.e, a potato, yellow on the outside and white on the inside, the relative difference between that and some of the government schools is pretty apparent in the methodologies and principles of education practised.Originally posted by jondizzle foshizzle:I've been to both an international and local school and trust me international schools are way better.
