That mass SMS was proven to be a hoax...it's in today's Digital Life.Originally posted by choco B:Last Sunday I received an sms from a friend. It was a mass message , saying that a pet shop was closing and the shop had to find owners for their dogs by that very weekend, otherwise the "leftover" animals will be put down. All dogs stated in the message were pedigree.
While I don't know how the pet industry operates, it's shocking how the shop trades in lives like this, subject to market demand and conditions. It's not the same as throwing away expired goods!
Taken off Digital Life:
SPCA also sent an officer down to Joo Chiat for investigations. While no official confirmation could be made as yet, SPCA says there was a pet shop suspected to be the one referred to in the SMS.
The shop was closed with a sign bearing the hand-written words: "Sorry, we are closed, no more dogs".
Any idea what IS the standard practice in the event this occurs? Goods are refundable and exchangeable for cash? Animals sold on consignment basis? The pet shops interviewed also said that it is not "standard practice" for animals to be put down just because a store is closing.
Originally posted by Wanda:That mass SMS was proven to be a hoax...it's in today's Digital Life.

The pet shop industry here is very poorly regulated. The puppy mills are churning out lots of puppies and those that outgrow their saleable age...well, sad things happen to them. And those that are still around, are kept in poor conditions.
I can't say for sure, but I think the shop is likely to sell the dog at a discount, or give it away to friends/contacts. Most pet shop owners I've come across seem to love dogs (generally), so I don't think they will put down the animal, or throw away their "investment" just like that.Originally posted by choco B:Any idea what IS the standard practice in the event this occurs?
