I am a Theatre film studies student in NUS. I just saw NUSÂ’s Law school advertisement posted on 18th April in the straits times. There was a disclaimer that declared this was a student made advertisement where no ad agency was involved. However, their ads appear to be eerily similar to SMU print adverts where the motifs are students featured with text captions stating their name, degree, CCA achievements and jobs secured prior to joining SMU.
In fact, correct me if I am wrong, SMU first started the trend of featuring students, be it their memorable “we are different” jump, or students posing in Zen styles, or their outstanding students featured against a white , minimalist background that comes with a text caption describing the person’s achievement. Thus, I would say NUS’s Law school adverts shouldn’t have imitated SMU print ads. I like NUS’s print ad which comes with a impressive tagline, “People tell you to know your limits, we tell you the sky’s the limit, that’s the difference between em N’US”. NUS law school please adjust your print ads.

i guess NUS just wishes to use what she feels is the best way to reach out to prospective students.
Like the idea of having a picnic on the greens of the Bukit Timah campus is something unique to NUS law faculty (whether the students have time to do such a thing is irrelevant)
In fact, I feel they are not similar to SMU's ad campaigns.
And i'm sure prospective students will look beoynd the university adverts in choosing the varsity they wish to enroll...

I believe that our school's advertisments are lacking in originality and also a sense of freshness. Frankly, they amuse me more than pricking my ears up, should I pass them by.
Ever tried asking the chaps at NM?
