This morning I was listening to an American radio station with Paul 'now you know the rest of the story' Harvey telling a tale about how Singapore got its name.He told a story about how a rich and wealthy Prince from a distant land braved the stormy seas to hunt for a ferocious mythical beast that lived on an island.The Prince came face to face when his men cornered the beast and realised that it was nothing more than just a Lion.Just then,the Lion turned on to the Prince who was eventually saved by one of his warriors spear.After the hunt,there was a big celebration whereby he declared that Island be call the Lion City or Singapura..........and now you know the rrrrrrrrrrest of the story!!! another American media bull-shitte!!! -

Last time before anyone discovered this island..It was inhabitated by rural Indian nomads...They had been living here for quite a few centuries already. Then, when the Sang Nila Utama, the rural villagers approached him and sang out their warrior song in a bid to chase them away but SNU was amazed at the intricacies of the dance and song and thus, he stayed around for a week and learnt that the song dance was called the Porra. Hence, Sang Nila Utama decided to make the island his home and he told his subjects that when their respective families come over, they were to sing a Porra...Hence, the name Singapura came about..

That story is just another one of those widely believed myths. Just like the belief that Christmas is Jesus' birthday.

The above was what we were told in school. It is the right version, nothing is wrong with it. -
