By the way, I feel that Monstercue at Meridian is too small. Why not go to Mambo at Lucky Plaza? The place there is much bigger and more tables. Anyway, same boss, right? -

Beats me. Ask the organiser. I too would prefer Mambo Billards though. Monstercue 2 the tables are just... too small. -
bout the choice of venue. Mambo @ lucky plaza will be too crowded on Sundays to book the whole place. monstercue2 has 8 seven foot tables so I can play 8 games at a go. the other places do not have so many tables of the same size.

Tournament Format
"Double Elimination" format at the beginning so you need to lose 2 games before being knocked out, followed by best of 3 knockout.
Hey Jason, about the format, not sure how it works when it's double-elimination switched to straight-knockout after the first round.
After the 1st round, there'll be 16 winners, 16 losers. The 16 losers form the losers' pool and play to stay in the tournament (lose again and you're out!). After which, if we move to straight knockout format, the 16 winners of the first round of matches should then be joined by the 8 winners from the losers' pool to form 24 players (here's where it gets weird). The 24 match up, then it becomes 12, then 6 ... then problem! at this stage, (I suppose it could be the quarter-finals stage) there should be 8 players (not 6), then 4 (semi finals), then 2 (final), then you have a winner.
Sorry if I've been a bit long-winded, but just hoping that this could be cleared up before sunday. For a look at a complete double-elimination tournament (a different sport, but that's not the point), check this .pdf document out:

Or could I have misinterpreted your post and the entire tournament is to be played in double elimination format, thus rendering this post completely irrelevant? heh...

start with 32 players who will play with each other
result in 16 winners (A) and 16 losers (B)
16 losers (B) will play with each other and the 8 losers of the losers will get eliminated.
16 winners (A) will play with each other and the 8 winners of the winners will go on to the knockout round.
the 8 winners of the winners will play with the 8 winners of the losers and from there... 8 losers will get eliminated and the rest will proceed to the knockout round.
So there will be 16 players in the knockout round. confusing? -

now there's a potential "easier route" for getting to the knockout round, but since this is a "fun" thing.. here's hoping everyone plays their best and not manipulate the system.
