  how is this an accurate test of a singaporean's english standard?? the words are too difficult for normal singaporeans to understand. this is a lousy survey. PW project?

  personally, for me, the person with good command of england is the one who can write/speak simply and get the idea across

  All that I know is, if you use short-hand and have spelling error when doing a survey, your standard can't be too high either.

  Hello? The standard of english is not judged by your vocabulary prowess, but by how you string your vocabulary together to form comprehensible logical sentences. So what if you know all the cheem cheem words if your grammar is flawed? Or that you sentences don't make any sense?

  Everyone knows how to check for the answer in a dictionary. It's just that no one BOTHERED with TS.

  Tiok-lah ! The average average native speaker dont use words like these in their daily conversation but only the average ting tong person does.We probably come across these words several times when we read but because we dont bother to really check the meaning or usage,it is just tucked somewhere at the back of the head until of course some ting tong guy comes along with a survey like this

  1. the name of some ancient Greek guy
  2. terrifically boring
  3. means disappear very fast
  4. no clue
  5. means the person is very concerned about his face
  6. means the person is a devout follower of Mao
  7. means this is not the droid you are looking for
  8. this means cynical or something

  Anyway, ordinary people don't use these words regularly since simpler terms are able to convey the same message or meaning. this isn't a good way to judge someone's command of the language.
