Supermarket Plasticbags

  I applaud IKEA for the bold move of doing away with free plastic bags! I can't say the same for all other major supermarkets! Doing it half heartedly, only on one day in a week. I think they should all follow IKEA's fine example.

  Well, some people are happy with the move whereas others aren't...we can't have the best of both worlds

  ikea in furniture business. use less plastic bags.

  I think the supermarkets are doing it once a month - first wed of the month.

  i'm tempted to go shopping on tues and thurs and then get extra plastic bags. and say its to make up for wednesday.

  If all of the supermarkets and petrol kiosks can agree to do a complete ban together there won't be this 'fear' of losing customers to compeitors.

  Then again people may go to other shops just to ask for plastic bags, and the shopkeepers won't be too pleased even if it costs them very little.

  We have people e.g. the elder generation who may not understand why we should be environmentally-friendly. I don't disagree with introducing the reusable bags gradually instead of implementing a complete supermarket-wide cut-off in the supply of plastic bags.
