Johor Bahru. Worth risking your life there?

Wats the main reason of you visiting JB? Cheaper food or cheaper petrol? And ended up you kena rob or worst.......shot at! I went there last friday evening and just after I passed thru the JB checkpoint, I made a fast walk to citysq. I went there is to buy some hair product ( this one comes in a minature size and not available on sale in Sg ). But the price is not cheap anyway. So if this is on sale here, I also won't go over to JB even if the price is cheaper.

however, come to tink bout it. sg is so small, its boring to go to the same places thus most of the times ppl go there to shop even tho the things wasn't cheap there too. -

don't go in and pump until u've hit ur reserve tank -
i pump singapore petrol to brim cos me about $12..
if i pump in malaysia...its about $15 ringgit...which is slightly about $6... almost half price lei..
but i go there is fast fast go..fast fast go back... -

Not to forget the bad traffice jam during peak hours. Super long wait for sbst 170 and 160.

if i go in to pump, i go like... 1am-2am
usually if i go to JB for other stuff, i'm in around 3pm.
so there's no jam at any time.
if i pump petrol in the morning, i'll be in around 9am.
i seldom pump there now, not because of the robberies.
i'm just lazy to ride all the way there... so now i'm more interested in DVDs and food. -

long wait??
the only long wait i encountered is the malaysian custom office, wait for 1.5 to 2 hrs just to pass through

Actually I go there like once a month. I wonder why people always kena rob there.
I go there eat. You eat Crab + Prawn + Crayfish + the usual stuff only like 30RM. The paper wrap chicken there also good. Sometimes go Giant stack up on snacks like milo and stuff. They even sell cottage fries chips which is extinct in Sg.
The Secret Recipe there is also about same price as Sg but is in Ringgit.
Sometimes, I go there for a haircut. Got pretty good hair salons right there. Better service than in Sg and of coz much cheaper.
I don't drive in so I not sure about fuel saving.
Once the hairdresser assumed I was a local all along. Maybe I blend in and thats why I never encounter any incident. -

Actually hor, it's quite safe if you know what you are doing.
One of first rule of self-defence is to always avoid danger and conflict if you can, unfortunately I think could it be that Singaporeans simply lack the street smarts to keep safe in JB that's why they end up such easy prey?
Always keep to crowded, well lit areas. Never enter a place where you are not certain of how to escape. Don't walk blindly around without noticing who might be targeting you and don't look like the ignorant Singaporean moving around in JB but just blend in to be like one of the locals. Always make sure you have a plan on what to do if you encounter criminals and if you can travel in groups. And don't silly silly follow strangers after they tell you some funny story. And don't dress so nicely if you can, something simple will do.
It is likely the cases of Singaporeans who were robbed in JB, very often they failed at one of these crucial things and ended up being a nice target. Remember this is not Singapore so don't treat it like it's Singapore and you will be safe just by acting as you always do in Singapore. -
they target mainly people who act haolian or act rich.
When there, be humble and wear casual.
Dun bring your exp handphone.
Dun drive exp car there.
Dun flash your riches when shopping
...
and u will be ok. -

everytime i go malaysia, i only buy their local products (snacks) home.

so want to go there
need to pass johor loh most of the time.....
