How many here have the attitude: "Eat, drink and be merry... for tomorrow we die..."?
Is that a good attitude, for after all, you cannot do much or change much even if you want to...?
"Just marry someone reasonable for even the best is not perfect..."
"Aim for the mediocre, for even the best is found lacking..."
This kind of attitude... how good or bad is it? What is the upside and what is the downside?

Happiness belongs to the self-sufficient. If you adopt that kind of mindset, no doubt you will be a happy person.
There's no telling what's wrong and what's right, it's a double edged sword. -

if there is downside to it, and that will be I don't care what happen to this country at all, if anything happen, i will make sure, i find the nearest exit, will do, money makes the world goes round -
I guess many people will say that if you live like that, then you are a "shallow person"... what do they mean by "you are a shallow person"? What's so bad about being a shallow person? Why is there a negative connotation?
Why is it better to be an obnoxious, unhappy "deep" person rather than be a happy go lucky...
An old woman used to say... about food and eating, in hokkein: "seng jiak seng gnia"
translated as "eat first" and in the enjoyment of eating it, you have "won", you have benefited, so in eating the food you enjoy, you "win first" (forget about / do not worry about the consequences... you have already "won" first/initially) -

The other two are defeatist. The boh chap attitude.
The first attitude is not bad.
If you work hard, and indulge, its your reward.
But if you are lacking, and adopt this lifestyle, its bad.
The other two, shows a lack of responsibility. These are bad attitudes.
Each one of us, have a duty to ourselves, our family to strive for the best.
The only good is that it saves you effort in striving. Which is not much of a benefit. -

why not ? Go ahead and do it
Anyway life is short , no one know
when he/she will just die
So just enjoy life while still standing
on tis planet earth

what about saving for a rainy day? where does one draw the line?... do you not try to save as much as possible?
should one "budget" and that is, save 30% and spend 30% on "drinks women and song"... 30% on essentials and 10% on charity (no absolute amounts)....
When is an attitude "defeatist" and when is it "realistic?"
You talked about "have a duty to ourselves, our family to strive for the best"; but can bo? Is it not better to be realistic and instead of "striving" for the best, just "enjoy what you have"? -
