Left pedal is call the soft pedal, makes loud music slightly softer, only high grade musicican can pick out the diff....
Middle pedal is muffle pedal, makes playing muffled cos a piece of cloth blocks the hammers striking the strings....
Right pedal is call sustain pedal, as what one of them said, to create a warmer and thicker resonance sound and generally make it nicer to lidten if used correctly....
