what kind out career do u wanna carve out?
Why do u wanna join banks? If u wanna join banks why not choose banking and finance? And what part of a bank do u wanna be in? Qualification and experience required for a teller, a call centre officer, a mobile banking exec, a corporate finance exec, and a unsecured loans exec can be very different.
My boss always say when ever you do something, think long term. He may not be some success coach, but I consider that advice top notch.
What kind of career do u wish to forge in 2, 3, 5 years after u grad? At this point in time, what kind of career most appeals to you?
(Note: when i say career, i dun just mean job. I mean a career as a business entrephreur too).
Once u shortlist a few careers that interest you, ask yourself where did you get the impressions of what these careers do. Is it from a reliable source that u can relate to?
Example: My initial perception of an Design Engineer during my uni days is
i can come out with my own design on say weapon system for example.
Reality: Wait long long. Maybe you'll have a chance to design something new when u'r 50. For now, you
help your senior designers design the cover to the headlight on the vehicle the new rocket launcher is to be mounted on.
Example: My initial perception of a Citibank Private Banker==
Rich, well dressed, gets invitation to impressive high class parties, drives minimum BMW, good looks, cool, cream of the crop.
Reality = Super back stabbing, super cut throat industry even among collegues. High turnover rate of below 2 years, high rejection by potential clients, demanding clients and clients who will bring u for a ride. Only the top 5% are really rich, the rest is just getting by.
Realize our perception is usually form by the media and TV seriels, drama and from hearsay. It is very different from reality. When u plan your career, you want to know what are the real perts in that path, you must also be able to accept the shortcomings of it you're face everyday.
