Title: A DAY OUT WITH MY LOW EQ MOTHER AND HOW I FAKED HER
I was with my mum at Giant Supermarket few days ago. Doing her usual grocery shopping at a clean, peaceful supermarket like any refined housewife would.
We spotted fishes at the fresh fish section, where they were displayed on bed of crushed ice. She chanced upon some bright and perky red tilapias, one of the fishes commonly consumed in my household.
She got me to use the tongs to select some fishes, which she would then scrutinize to pick out the fresh healthy looking ones. Clue: See if the eye of the fish is firm n bright.
It was a big pile of tilapia fishes stack on top of one another, with a layer of thick ice on top. Must be some fresh stock from the local fish farm. Since there was more fishes at the bottom layer, she asked me to dig them out to let her do her selection. Perhaps just being paranoid that the older stock of fishes were put on the upper layers, so that they get cleared off first.
So i remove a few fishes, but then my mischievous nature decided to surface. As i remove one of the fishes with the tong, i wriggled my hand vigorously which then caused the fish held in the tong to sway and tremble back and forth!
As if the fish was alive!! This shocked her, even more so as some of the water on the fish dripped onto her blouse! I exclaimed 'Its Alive! Holy Smokes!'. But then as my hand got tired, i put down the fish on the ice pile. It didn't moved already; it laid down as still as a dead fish literally.
Her expression revealed that she really believed the fish was alive. But now, when it didn't move any inch, she began to think twice. I then told her that i had actually played a trick on her and we had a good laughed.
So then after selecting a few fresh fishes, it was given to the fishmonger staff who would then descale and gut it. I guess he had a good laugh too and must've have brighten up his day.
Well, later on, my mum said sometimes at the wet market, some fishes that were sold on the fishmongers stall were still alive n wriggling. This is due to them being transported from the fish farm in ice and styrafoam box in their semi alive state. Thats why she fell for my trick.
