Seriously lor, sometimes it's damn hard to differentiate between fat and pregnant... Girls can differentiate better becos they understand but you have to agree with me that for some cases, it's damn hard to tell, especially when the mother herself is already a fat piece of lard... For slimmer mothers, it's easier to notice the bulge in her tummy...
So sometimes, it's really unfair... We would gladly give up our seat for a pregnant lady but how the fock would we know whether you are pregnant or just fat? We wouldnt want to embarass fat aunties too right? And embarass ourlselves in the process... So maybe the pregnant ladies might wanna do something on their part as well... When no one is giving up their seat for u, just go up to them and tell them politely that you are pregnant... Someone will give up his/her seat for sure...
The same goes for old peeps as well.... Some old people are focking grumpy.. When you give up your seat for them, they dont wanna sit.... And sometimes, it's damn hard to judge whether this particular person is really "old".... so how old is considered old? Once again, you wouldnt wanna give up your seat to some auntie who doesnt want to be identified as "old" and then get scolded by her right?

It's not funny at all my friend... Havent u read in the newspapers that there have been cases where teenage girls give birth at home without anyone noticing.. i'm prepared to stare at those ppl right into their eyes and feel no guilt. -
when u encounter these kind of problems, best solution is to sleep and listen to songs, u cant see and u cant hear..!

Ladies who are not heavily pregnant but just pregnant also need seats. We don't give them seats because they are heavily pregnant or can't stand much. We give them up so as to avoid unfortunate incidents such as the lady losing balance and falling due to the train jerking. This can be very dangerous for the baby in them. Same goes to old people. An injured young person (like urself) can recover faster when compared to an old person (fragile or not).

It is OUR right to decide to give up the seat or not. The potential beneficiary has NO RIGHT to demand someone to give it up.
If we give up, its coz we decide it ourselves, not becoz that person is staring at us making us feel embarassed.
Sorry, but I tend to be angry when you say it as if you are taking for granted people's kind intentions, that they MUST do it.
No one owes the pregnant woman or old person a living, that they MUST do something nice.
And sorry, you want to blame, blame our govt. There is no benefit to being nice or being gracious, money is all that matters -

My ex-colleague is a overweight lady. Once a man gave up his seat for her in the MRT (willingly, without my ex-colleague making overt or covert gestures). But after she has taken the seat, the man started looking at her more closely... and frown ever so slightly.
My ex colleague was so embarassed, and she pretended to massage her ample paunch, and make as if she is pregnant
What to do? She cannot just stand up, gave the seat back to the man and tell him that :"sorry, but I am not pregnant, just fat" can she?

Worse if the old ppl demand the seat from you rather than you offering the seat to you.

Yes! we should give seat to fat persons! for the sake of safety!
the reason is because if they stand, if there is an emergency stop, the fat person will fall n caused injuries to skinny pple. -

i encounter such problem also. it's really very hard to differiate between fat and pregnant. Wat i do when a suspected pregnant come stand infont of me, i will get off the train lorh. No need to feel guilty or pai seh if she's not pregnant.

my ex coll...she is veri fat..like a sumo wrestler.. when she was pregnant till she gave birth..she doesn't look pregnant at all..somemore she's tall more than 1.7m. I hv customer who called to look for her when she's on maternity leave ..when i told them she's on maternity leave..they would say..r you sure...but i just saw her 2 weeks ago...
she once said if on mrt/bus n a real fat lady come on, she will hesitate to give up seat ant cos not sure if pregnant. But u can see dat she doesn't mean herself.... i really pei fu her guts.. -

singapore doesn't owe anyone a living.
thus if we want anything, we have to request on our own, and not expect it to drop from the sky.
similarly, if the (those in need) needs seats, they can request, but very often it's usually out of politeness and cutouresty that people give up their places.
We can't blame Singapore Govt, in the whole world, everything is about Money, No Money No talk. So you can't push the blame to them.
It depends on what and how you think if the individual derserves to get a seat or not.
I myself also give up seats to those in need, but only when I feel they really need it.
So far, I will only give seats to pregnant ladies and selected elders..
I will not give way to aunties and Some Elders/Seniors because most of them are so 'kiasu' for seats. Rushing and pushing their way into the train when the doors just open.
Respect and politeness only should be given to those who respect themselves and others. -

Anyway, what I want to emphasize is this:
NO ONE should take it for granted of a considerate act.
DO NOT think that old people, or pregnant women has THE RIGHT to make people give up their seats.
Instead, they should be GRATEFUL and appreciate the kind gesture
How many times I give up my seat, I don't even get a word of thanks from the recipient, more like they think you MUST give up your seat.
In fact, any forumlite here whom thinks that people MUST give up their seats, in truth is an inconsiderate person, and do not understand what a kind act means.
A KIND ACT is one in which a person willingly does it, and is not forced to do it (either by law, or by others). For eg. Lee Hsien Loong's act to donate his increase in pay IS NOT a kind act, coz he was forced to do it.
