Direct poly admission exercise starts Julybased on last year exercise, more students with good grades are opting for polytechnic so what will happen to those who are just average.
STUDENTS with special talents and achievements, seeking direct admission into Singapore's junior colleges (JCs) and polytechnics for the next academic year, may start applying from June and July respectively.
.
The first direct polytechnic admission (DPA) exercise starts on July 11 for those who want to confirm places in polytechnic courses before taking their GCE O-level examinations in October.
.
The DPA gives the polytechnics greater flexibility to select students based on their talents and not just examination results.
.
The polytechnics — Nanyang, Ngee Ann, Republic, Singapore and Temasek — will each admit some 100 students this way.
.
For those seeking direct admission into JC1 and its equivalent, the exercise will be held from June 25. Government and Government-aided JCs will admit up to 10 per cent of their intake, while the three independent institutions — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Junior College — offering pre-university programmes will take in up to 20 per cent of their intake.
.
More information on the respective exercises can be obtained at the websites: www.moe.gov.sg/esp/schadm/dsa_jc/ and www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/post-sec/dpa/. — Channel NewsAsia
