Yeah that is possbile oso............BTW how come nobody bother to talk about the Royal Family of Singapore from Kampong Glam because although these people were really screwed they are still a part of Singapore's history.I dont really know their history but once upon a time I was dating a so called Princess (Tenku) whose family was dirt poor.Originally posted by Icemoon:ya lor .. skully they find your DNA matching with the alien's from Roswell.
cos they kenna displaced by the descendants of Temenggong liao. And the Johor Sultanate is related to the Temenggong.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Yeah that is possbile oso............BTW how come nobody bother to talk about the Royal Family of Singapore from Kampong Glam because although these people were really screwed they are still a part of Singapore's history.
Nope .. the ones related to the Johor Royal Family are the descendants of the Temenggong. Their ancestral graves are inside the mosque compound at Telok Blangah.Originally posted by Short Ninja:I think the descendants of Kampong Glam is related to the Royal Family of Johor but somehow today they must have prefered to be related to the Lee Family insteaD>
Actually the government still give the descendants at Kampong Glam a sum of money every year, I think. But the money has to be divided among so many people.Originally posted by Short Ninja:cuz how do one live with the title of Tun or Tengku when that bugger work as a Cisco guard or a pump attendant???

So they are royalties in name only, no power one.
We really need to tell their story. It is a shame that nothing is done.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Yeah that is possbile oso............BTW how come nobody bother to talk about the Royal Family of Singapore from Kampong Glam because although these people were really screwed they are still a part of Singapore's history.I dont really know their history but once upon a time I was dating a so called Princess (Tenku) whose family was dirt poor.

Actually their history is very simple.Originally posted by Xtrider:a can tell more about their history, lineage and such? like to know more leh..dunno anything at all..
It is said that shortly after Sir Stamford Raffles founded Singapore in 1819, he discovered the presence of two warring factions in the island. One was held by the Sultan while the others looked up to the Tengku Temenggong. As a result, there were frequent outbreaks of violence between the two groups - with the aggressors being the followers of the Temenggong. What many students do not know is how the Temenggong was related to the brothers (Hussein and Abdul Rahman). It gets more confusing because both the Temenggong and younger brother were called .. Abdul Rahman!
As a result, Raffles considered it too dangerous for the Settlement to have the Temenggong living in it. Consequently, Raffles asked the Temenggong to move to a further place with his followeres and promised to provide the expenses for shifting, including some compensation.
The temenggong, however, was a subordinate of his cousin Abdul Rahman, sultan of Riau-Johor, who was under Dutch surveillance. So the temenggong was also a cousin of the older Hussein?
In 1819, the Johor-Riau Empire was broken into the mainland Johor, controlled by the Temenggong, and the Sultanate of Riau-Lingga, controlled by the Bugis. This is when the history of modern Johor began. In 1855, under the terms of a treaty between the British in Singapore and Sultan Ali of Johor, the control over the State was formally ceded to Dato' Temenggong Daing Ibrahim, with the exception of the Kesang area (Muar), which was finally handed over in 1877. Temenggong Ibrahim opened up Bandar Tanjung Puteri (later to become Johor's present-day capital) in south Johor as a major town.As we can see, there was an official power transfer to the descendants of Temenggong Abdul Rahman. Today, the Johor Sultan traces his lineage to the Temenggong.
Temenggong Ibrahim was succeeded by his son, Dato' Temenggong Abu Bakar, who later took the title Seri Maharaja Johor. In 1866, he was formally crowned the Sultan of Johor. Sultan Abu Bakar of Johor (1864 - 1895) was the one who gave Johor its own constitution and developed its efficient administration system and constructed the Istana Besar, the official residence of the Sultan. Due to these achievements, Sultan Abu Bakar is known by the title "Father of Modern Johor".
Yes,from my point of view if you put a President Elected at the Istana that person is still Cho bo lan so why not give the Malays back some of their heritage and pride by putting a Royal blood at the Istana for Ceremonial duties only.No need to give him a Minister mega paycheck lahOriginally posted by LazerLordz:We really need to tell their story. Ok so the Royal Family of Singapore is descended from Sultan Hussein but who is he and who were his ancestors? They all belong to the same family tree as the Johor Royal family right?Originally posted by Icemoon:As we can see, there was an official power transfer to the descendants of Temenggong Abdul Rahman. PS: The Royal Mausoleum at Telok Blangah belongs to Malaysia while the Istana Kampong Glam belongs to Singapore.
The history can be a bit confusing because the royal history of Singapura, Johor and Malacca are actually related.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Ok so the Royal Family of Singapore is descended from Sultan Hussein but who is he and who were his ancestors? The Sultanate of Johor (or sometimes Johor-Riau or Johor-Riau-Lingga) was founded by Malaccan Sultan Mahmud Shah's son, Sultan Alauddin Riayat Shah in 1528. Johor was part of the Malaccan Sultanate before the Portuguese conquered Malacca's capital in 1511.So yes, they belong to the same family tree as the Johor Royal family. But since the current Sultan of Johor traces his lineage from the temenggong, the Royal Family of Singapore are more like distant relatives to the Johor Royal family.
The sultans from Telok Blangah have overshadowed the ones from Kampong Glam. Remember the Temenggong held real power then.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Yes,from my point of view if you put a President Elected at the Istana that person is still Cho bo lan so why not give the Malays back some of their heritage and pride by putting a Royal blood at the Istana for Ceremonial duties only.No need to give him a Minister mega paycheck lah
Something like a Yang Di Pertuan Agong, but ceremonial in nature.Originally posted by Short Ninja:Yes,from my point of view if you put a President Elected at the Istana that person is still Cho bo lan so why not give the Malays back some of their heritage and pride by putting a Royal blood at the Istana for Ceremonial duties only.No need to give him a Minister mega paycheck lah
Yes but for now we have an Ah Gong who wishes to be nothing more but a caretaker /GardenerOriginally posted by LazerLordz:Something like a Yang Di Pertuan Agong, but ceremonial in nature.
But once a year some of these distant relatives do get officially invited to the Sultan of Johor Birthday Party. So you could say that blood is still thicker than water with these guys.Imagine if you were one of the descendants having to pay GST,line up for hours to get your Hello Kitty toys, failed more than 10 times at the Ang Mo Kio driving center...etc wouldnt you be TU-LAN enough to pick a quarrel with just about anybody you meet including family members?Originally posted by Icemoon:So yes, they belong to the same family tree as the Johor Royal family. But then you think .. if not for Sultan of Johor's ancestors, the royal family of singapore will be the Royal Family of Johor also.Originally posted by Short Ninja:But once a year some of these distant relatives do get officially invited to the Sultan of Johor Birthday Party. So you could say that blood is still thicker than water with these guys.Imagine if you were one of the descendants having to pay GST,line up for hours to get your Hello Kitty toys, failed more than 10 times at the Ang Mo Kio driving center...etc wouldnt you be TU-LAN enough to pick a quarrel with just about anybody you meet including family members?
