yeah. we shouldnt judge the passengers at this point in time. after all, we werent there, were we? maybe they misunderstood the situation? maybe they were terrified? what if they have families? I know this sounds harsh, but that women was a stranger to them. would you risk your life for a stranger? especially if you have kids at home waiting for you?Originally posted by Slipshade:I think I might ignore... but I might also call the cops. Very hard to tell what you will actually do until it really happens, you know.

I'm not saying that they werent wrong in ignoring the rapist and the victim. it was cruel of them. Perhaps even cowardly or selfish. but what authority do we have to judge them and say that all Japanese people are horrible and only care about themselves?
would you call the cops if the man was glaring at you? especially if you're a woman -- would you? wouldnt you be worried that he'd ignore the first lady and come after you instead?
perhaps, when he dragged the victim off to the bathroom, someone could have called the cops...
but what if they didnt have their cellphone with them?
what if they were petrified with fear?
rawr. there are millions of reasons why the passengers could have chosen not to do anything about it. I'm not exactly proud of them for not doing anything, but ... never judge a man before you walk two moons in his moccassins. [dunno if I spelt that correctly..]
eeks. what's done is done. okay, I know, I wouldnt be saying that if I was the victim. but the thing is, I'm NOT the victim. right now, we shouldnt be focusing on other's faults. we should be focusing on how to prevent such matters from occuring in singapore... and from re-occuring again in the world... =\[/b]

agreed. I would break every single bone in his body.Originally posted by MichelleTan:It is depressing to know such news. Like just now the 7pm drama, the guy raped the girl , yet the guy can pretend nothing happened, still smiling away trying to touch the company's secretary some more.
Sometimes, I feel angry when I read about those rapists or molester's self defense words saying it is just an urge or being seduced by the girl or something.
How I wish I can cut off the rod of those perverts and feed the dogs outside my block.
1) The man was seen by everyone to be groping the woman's private parts. You get arseholes who play the spectator to fights (as reported in the papers) and some more who proudly claim they would (as seen in these forums). Let's not forget the sickos here who strip the women they see inside their heads.Originally posted by givemeluck:so u seen a man raping someone in our mrt b4 ?????![]()

Yes... the problem with a crowd is, there is a high possibility everyone will have the shift responsibility mentality. As in, you thinks you don't have to do anything because someone else might. But unfortunately, everyone else thinks the same as you do! So in the end nobody helps and the ultimate tragedy happens!Originally posted by ChingAlvin:This is really a sad case. I would definitely do something about it if it happens. I swear that if one steps up first, the rest would follow suit.
Actually, half agree, only... Coz ah, if they really are thinking that way, they would not act blur like they dont know... But i think what u said is a factor, just not strong enough....Originally posted by Slipshade:Yes... the problem with a crowd is, there is a high possibility everyone will have the shift responsibility mentality. I'm not sticking up for them, I'm simply trying to look at the matter from a different light.Originally posted by Slipshade:1) The man was seen by everyone to be groping the woman's private parts. His intention was CLEAR.
2) The woman was dragged into a bathroom (?) for a full thirty minutes.
3) During the 30 minutes, the woman was SCREAMING.
4) The man wasn't there to threaten them anymore.
All the above four points just blow your post all apart. The cellphone reason is quite ridiculous btw.
You are wrong on the judgement part too. You are basically comparing a BEFORE and AFTER scenario in this case. Let me explain.
A hypothesis scenario such as this case was put to me, and I replied: No, I won't help.
To judge me at that point, is a true pre-judgement.
However, if I really did nothing when something like that happens, then it is not a pre-judgement at all. Because what I did, or rather, what I did not do, was really really, really bad. Take note that no matter what reasonings you have, to do nothing in such cases, is BAD. There is no excuse.
Fine if you are intimidated by the man's glare and threat. But there's point number 2 to 4! The guy can't see you, can't threaten you... what's there to be scared of anymore? If you are the only one who dared to call the cops while the others are keeping quiet, most likely those others will not give your identity away to the rapist. They did not stop him or go forward as witnesses afterall, so why would they stop you or tell the rapist you are the one who reported him?
Your post sounds very much like you are sticking up to those people who ignored what happened and that is very hard for me to accept.
I know, I'd probably be screaming at the passengers if I was the victim. They deserves it. Because that was the pain they inflicted on the woman, and on THEMSELVES. They did not harm the woman directly, but they harmed her indirectly. And by doing so, they harmed themselves.
The passengers are probably screaming at themselves for not doing anything.
They have their own conscience to deal with ...
They probably know that they were wrong...
They have enough to deal with...
I dont think they need everyone else's criticism to top it all

I know it's wrong... but it's always easier to see what was the RIGHT thing to do from hind perspective. look at WWI. look at WWII. back at the time, there were OBVIOUS reasons why the french and the british DID NOT want to enter war with the Germans. at that time, it was acceptable. in fact, it would seem possibly INSANE if the british and the french decided to stand up to hitler. especially since it was during the great depression.
however, looking back, we SEE how STUBBORN they were to try to avoid war. if they had acted earlier, perhaps, WWII would not have occurred. it would only have been a minor war..
those passengers were like britain and france. they couldnt predict the future ... they didnt know what was going to happen next... I'm not denying the fact that they were wrong in not doing anything... I'm simply pointing out that it's easy for us to say how stubborn and cowardly they are, when, in reality, if placed in the same circumstance, perhaps, we would have done the exact same thing.
perhaps, you think I'm crazy. maybe I am -shrugs-. however, I dont think we have any right to say that those passengers are horrible people.
I'm 14, and though some 19-year-old rapist may seem like nothing to you, just remember that there was a time when 19-year-olds horrified you too.
and it just gets worse when I'm a girl.
I know, I'd probably be screaming at the passengers if I was the victim.
