i bothered not becos of the collison only but because reality is stranger than what i have thought and according to psychology, a human self needs stability and security in life and when he realize that truth is not what he thought was, he is suspectible to fear.Originally posted by Ferret:Amazing why u bothered since we cant even be sure the human species will be around for the next billion years![]()
the report says that sun will still be burning by thenOriginally posted by Bontakun:How long does the sun or earth have before the collision? As in how long can the sun, earth and other planets in this solar system live before the collision?
Last I heard, the sun is in the latter years of the 2nd stage. It will be a few more billion years (few more or less?) before the sun goes into 3rd stage. I think by that time earth will be gone. Most likely destroyed by the expanding mass the sun is undergoing in the 3rd stage by then.
the report did not make reference to earth so earth could be gone by thenOriginally posted by january:the report says that sun will still be burning by then
There's always the Omega Point Theory to fall back on.. although it sounds like science fiction to me...Originally posted by january:the report did not make reference to earth so earth could be gone by then
OR there is a remote possibility that it can change into a black hole and suck in everything within its range.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:By the time they collide, either the Sun is dying (which means the destroy of Solar System) or humans destroy themselves.
The Sun isn't a very huge star, so it won't explode, but in the next few million years to come, it will become a red hot star, which will destroy the nearby planets, namely Mercury, Venus, Earth and probably Mars.
3 billion if i remember correctlyOriginally posted by january:sorry i not sure whether its billion year or million year.
I am sure that in a million years, humanity will have either discovered hyperspace travel and planet colonization OR perished into history.Originally posted by january:sorry i not sure whether its billion year or million year.
He's talking about our whole friggin galaxy colliding with andromeda galaxyOriginally posted by Xtrider:This is damn old news liao...why did strait times only report now?
The chance of collision of our sun and its systems (us) with other stars is highly remote because of the sheer size of the galaxy, unless of course we get a direct hit into their core..
After saying all these, the main question is, will u still be here to observe it?
Hmm... perhaps some meteor hit earth before then? Or freak accident whereby a black hole appears out of nowhere? Or maybe a mishap in scientific experimentation while researching power which causes worldwide destruction? Myabe we all die of hunger before 500 years.Originally posted by Xephone_xenon:Okay okay.
Humans gonna destory earth with nuclear power in next 500years.
As far as I know, the Sun isn't massive enough to become a black hole... well, that's according to theories. Besides, we haven't seen any stars as massive as the Sun turning into a black hole, so this possibility is near zero.Originally posted by Bontakun:OR there is a remote possibility that it can change into a black hole and suck in everything within its range.
Billions of years. It will be interesting if humanity can survive for that long. Though I doubt much, but I don't give up hope on humanity just yet.![]()
Have u heard this before .. ?Originally posted by january:i bothered not becos of the collison only but because reality is stranger than what i have thought and according to psychology, a human self needs stability and security in life and when he realize that truth is not what he thought was, he is suspectible to fear.
Well, that is one worry OFF the board. What of 'death rays'? and human errors?Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:As far as I know, the Sun isn't massive enough to become a black hole... well, that's according to theories. I wonder who will survive or will there be another evolution that probably increase or decrease our chances of survival?
Just like how some elephants are born without tusks because humans are hunting for their tusks?
Hmm...
yea..maybe i didn phrase properly...as in our solar system (sun)Originally posted by fatslob:He's talking about our whole friggin galaxy colliding with andromeda galaxy
And thus the 'ferret rules' thingy? That is INDEED a mystery...Originally posted by Ferret:Have u heard this before .. ?
that we all need a little mystery in our lives ?
and that science takes away some of the wonder...?
that one is a fact of life.Originally posted by Bontakun:And thus the 'ferret rules' thingy? That is INDEED a mystery...![]()
Which hereby reinforcing my stand of 'mystery indeed'.Originally posted by Ferret:that one is a fact of life.
No need arguement one.
if its a fact, its not a mystery.Originally posted by Bontakun:Which hereby reinforcing my stand of 'mystery indeed'.![]()
