Actually, retaking A levels during NS is not going to help... I have seen 2 frens and my own brother retaking A levels during NS and they all did worse...
If you cant get in NUS, NTU or SMU, you can try SIM or UniSIM... My bro got into UniSIM with his crappy A levels results... For my other 2 frens, one of them went poly and the other went to an Aussie uni...
The one who went Aussie uni completed his Engineering degree in 3 years while i took 4 years in a local uni... I didnt really catch up with him so i dont know if it was easy for him to look for jobs in Singapore... -

apparently, one comforting thing is my lecturers said diplomas are too good that local uni dont wanna recognise.
(only merit diplomas can get exemption of one or 2 semesters while overseas ones up to 2 years exemption)
so bo pian, got to go overseas, aa pity UNSW Asia closed..

Too good that the local uni dont wanna recognise? Where is the logic behind that? Universities all over the world welcome good students becos their good performance will bring up the ranking of the univerisity... I have compared the engineering work of my fren in poly with mine in university... The basics are there but seriously, it's way too basic.. I would say an exemption of 1-2 semesters is justifiable but 1-2 years is just crap... Might as well throw the degree free for the diploma holders... For all those who are tempted to go overseas to study becos of this reason, please make sure tht the university is recognised to a certain standard... you wont wanna come back to singapore and take a few months to a year to look for a job... -
Anyway, i dunno much about SIM... but why are you so reluctant to study there?

important things to ask
1. how many yrs do you have to study
2. is it direct honours?
try to look for a uni that offers a deg thats 2 yrs + direct honours for poly grad -
hmmm.. you won't die if you can't enter a local uni lah.

Yupz.. I was from JC... I think it depends on which uni your lecturer was comparing to... I compared my work in Uni A with my fren's work in a not so established Uni B, and I was surprised that theirs was almost touch and go... Sometimes we have to consider why some unis can afford to give a degree in 3 years while another uni die die must offer the same course for 4 years...
